PHA Production Pilot Plant Design
Making Bioplastic from Cheese Byproduct - (Senior Capstone Project)
In 2021, Prof. Ruihong Zhang's lab developed a bench-top process that converts Delactosed Permeate (DLP), a cheese processing byproduct, into Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) bioplastic through microbial means. The project needed to be scaled-up into a pilot plant and as part of a team, I developed an engineering design for a pilot-scale (25lb/batch) PHA production system utilizing lactose as the low-cost feedstock. During this project, I primarily worked on the Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams for all stages of the process.

rPET Food Packaging Design
My current work is related to the design and manufacture of Food Packaging for local Indonesian F&B manufacturers and distributors. The projects featured below highlight some of this work, as well as other design and prototyping work performed over the years. All the designs are intended to be used in recycled PET plastic Thermoforming and Vacuum Forming.

Analysis and Prototyping

Analysis of product’s draft verifying that all surface are favorable for being pulled from a cavity, such as a vacuum forming mold. This part of the design ensures the packaging is “manufacturable” and end product can be stacked upon itself while still being in line with client’s vision and demands.

Final Mold profile to be fabricated through CNC
Initial Prototype for the Box-Style Tray from previous images. At this stage of the design, the mass and uniformity of the prototype is analyzed to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality in color, and rigidity and strength of the structure.
